Founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka all the way back in 1949, ASICS has grown to become one of the most successful brands in the footwear industry. Originally starting out life as Onitsuka Tiger, the brand didn’t begin trading as ASICS until 1977, when the business went under a complete redesign. Named after the Latin expression “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano”, which translates to “a sound mind in a sound body”, ASICS focuses on crafting top-quality footwear for athletes and sportspeople, although in recent years the label’s lifestyle division has come on leaps and bounds.
Known by sneakerheads for popular models such as the Gel-Lyte III, Gel-Lyte V and the Gel-Kayano, ASICS has built a cult following over the years and has even joined forces with the likes of JJJJound, Ronnie Fieg and Sean Wotherspoon to bring us collaborative releases.
