Ever since early 2023, legendary Japanese streetwear label BAPE and Nike have been in an ongoing legal feud regarding copyright infringement. Back in January ‘23, the Swoosh sued BAPE regarding some of its most-popular sneaker silhouettes, notably the BAPE STA, the SK8 STA and the COURT STA. The Beaverton brand claimed that the models were direct copies of the Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1 and the Nike Dunk, stating that “BAPE’s copying is and always has been unacceptable to Nike, and because BAPE’s infringements have recently grown to become a significant danger to Nike’s rights, Nike must act now.”
While the lawsuit has been ongoing for months, news just in is that the two brands have finally reached an agreement and settled the feud. As a result of the case, BAPE has agreed to cease production of the BAPE STA Mid, the COURT STA and the COURT STA High models. The BAPE STA and the SKATE STA will also be redesigned to avoid any further disputes. What’s your thoughts on the result of this lawsuit?
