Read and Follow Care Label Instructions

We’ve all heard the horror stories… Imagine buying a brand-new luxury T-shirt only to find yourself shrinking it in the wash! Or worse yet, it changes colour in the wash. While these occurrences are rare, they can certainly happen if you’re not careful when washing your garments. Most items of clothing will have a dedicated care label that will detail exactly how to wash and dry your item. Be sure to read this carefully and follow the instructions. Even if it’ll take longer, you’ll be able to rest easy knowing that your favourite garments won’t be ruined!

Store Your Clothing Safely

While it may sound obvious, how you store your clothing when you’re not wearing it will have a huge impact on the lifespan of your clothing. For example, hoodies left scrunched up on a chair will lose their shape fairly quickly, and T-shirts hung up in a wardrobe can risk the neck being stretched. We’ve always found that folding clothing neatly and storing it within dust bags leads to the best results. For larger items such as outerwear, hanging them in a wardrobe works just fine. Also be sure to keep your clothing out of the way of direct sunlight, as this can lead to clothing fading over time!

Rotate Your Clothing Collection

We all have our favourites, however wearing your number one T-shirt every day of the year probably won’t do it any favours. Naturally, the more you wear an item the more damage it’s likely to be exposed to. There’s a somewhat simple solution to this problem, and it’s making sure that your clothing is rotated evenly. Make sure all items are worn equal amounts and you don’t over-wear any item in particular. By doing it this way, you should lengthen the lifespan of every item within your wardrobe! It’s a simple yet effective life hack to ensure your clothes last longer.

Steam Instead of Ironing

No one likes creased clothing. While ironing may seem like the obvious solution here, doing so can actually risk damage to your much-loved luxury items. Ironing involves using extreme heat to remove the creases from your clothing, and many garments from brands such as Louis Vuitton or Dior are made from delicate material. Applying heat at this close range could cause irreversible damage. Instead, we’d advise using a steamer. This process is way less invasive to garments and there are little to no risks involved, with the end result being very similar. If you’re in doubt, don’t risk it!
