By 1989, Michael Jordan was nothing short of a worldwide sensation. He’d been drafted by the Chicago Bulls five years prior, with the team since rising up the ranks to becoming NBA championships for the very first time. Jordan and his team mates had become the ultimate basketball superstars, with hoopers around the world idolising their every move. Of course, with great success comes great sneakers. MJ had already achieved huge respect in the sneaker world after the launch of the AJ1, with the subsequent AJ2 and AJ3 also proving hugely popular.
However, things were about to go astronomical for Jordan Brand, as Tinker Hatfield was preparing to unveil his best Jordan design yet – the Air Jordan 4. Created with performance in mind, the AJ4 shed a vast amount of weight compared to its predecessor, sporting angular aesthetics and impeccably-clean OG colourways. Now one of the most popular lifestyle sneakers in the world, here at Crepslocker we’re taking a deep dive into how the Air Jordan 4 fits, so you’ll never have to question which size to buy again. So without further ado, let’s jump straight in!
How Does the Air Jordan 4 Fit?
Unlike most other Air Jordan silhouettes, the AJ4 only ever released in one cut. A low-top version has never been conceived, meaning there aren’t different models to compare against. As far as fit goes, the Jordan 4 follows a regular fit for Nike sneakers. While the design may have changed slightly since the late ‘80s, the size and fit has remained the same. If you’ve ever bought another pair of Nikes or Jordans and they fit well, we’d advise buying the exact same size here.
Unless you have abnormally wide feet, the AJ4 fits true to size, so we’d recommend buying your regular size. If your feet do differ from the norm, then a half size up at most should suffice. Also, if possible, we’d always recommend trying sneakers in-store, that way you can be sure they’ll fit exactly how you’d like.
How Does the Air Jordan 4 Fit Compared to Other Nikes?
Often the best way to find your size in sneakers is to compare them with pairs you already own, so here at Crepslocker we’ve already done this for you, meaning it’ll be easy to work out what size AJ4s you need to buy. If you own any other Jordan model, it’s relatively safe to assume that Jordan 4s will fit almost identical. It’s worth noting that the heel on the AJ4 can feel a little tight at first, although this will wear in with time.
However, if you own a pair of Air Force 1, you might want to reconsider buying the same size in Jordan 4s, or any Jordan model for that matter. The Nike Air Force 1 has a reputation for fitting on the larger side, meaning that many sneakerheads will take a size down in order to make them fit. This is not recommended for Air Jordan 4s.
How to Style the Air Jordan 4
Being a relatively bulky-looking sneaker (despite its lightweight construction), the Air Jordan 4 works impeccably-well with baggy streetwear style fits. Starting with trousers options, we’d recommend going for a pair of oversized cargo pants or sweatpants, the baggier fit will allow the pants to sit on the top of sneakers comfortably, accentuating the sharp design behind the AJ4. If you’re opting for tighter-fit jeans or trousers, the alternative option is to let the AJ4 tongue stick out in front of the trousers. This allows for a different look altogether, although it’s perhaps not totally on-trend in today’s scene.
With the rest of the outfit it really is personal choice, some sneakerheads like to match colours within their ‘fits, although there aren’t really any rules regarding this. Try to let your own personal style show through the outfit, and don’t forget to accessorise your look!
What are the Best Air Jordan 4s Ever?
The Air Jordan 4 is one of the most popular sneakers of the moment, so there’s been some absolutely solid versions over the last three years or so and some incredible pairs from before. Starting with OG colourways, pairs such as the Fire Reds, Breds, Thunders and the Military Blues are all worth a mention.
In terms of collaborations, plenty of parties have also decided to use Tinker Hatfield’s legendary design as their blank canvas. The Off-White x Air Jordan 4 from 2020 is one of the most-desirable AJ4s of all time, plus we can’t help but mention the incredible KAWS x Air Jordan 4 from 2017. Otherwise, there’s been some solid pairs from the likes of PSG, Union LA and even a recent in-house effort that saw Jordan Brand team up with Nike SB.
