How Does the Nike Dunk Fit? Dunk Sizing, Styling and More

Published: by Jack Aldrich

Originally designed as an affordable basketball sneaker for college students, the Nike Dunk burst onto the sneaker scene back in 1985, before sneaker hype even existed. Created by none other than Peter Moore, the kicks debuted in premium leather and boasted pared-back colourways that resembled college basketball kits. Since then, the Dunk has grown exponentially and is now one of the most-loved sneakers in the world. The timeless design of the Dunk has proved itself time and time again, playing host to legendary colourways and countless hyped collaborations.

Here at Crepslocker we’re huge Nike Dunk fans, but we find ourselves getting asked the same question all too often – how does the Nike Dunk fit? We’re here to settle the debate once and for all, so join us as we dive straight into our comprehensive Dunk sizing guide, where we’ll also cover styling tips, iconic colourways and so much more!

Nike Dunk Low ChicagoHow Does the Nike Dunk Low Fit?

Perhaps the most popular Nike Dunk model of all time, the Dunk Low offers a straightforward approach to aesthetics and remains one of the greatest sneakers in history. You might recognise it from the incredibly-popular Dunk Low “Panda”, a colourway that’s made an impressive return in recent years. Often crafted from leather, the Dunk Low does in fact fit true to size. It’s safe to take your regular size here, although if possible, we’d always recommend physically trying a pair on before buying.

How Does the Nike Dunk High Fit?

Much like its low-top counterpart, the Nike Dunk High also fits true to size. In fact, there’s little difference between the two models other than the height of the collars. The high-top pair has a taller collar for additional ankle support and was more popular for basketball back in the day due to the extra cushioning provided.

Those who are switched on when it comes to the Swoosh will also be aware of the Nike SB Dunk, a model that also comes in both a high and a low top rendition. Nike’s dedicated skateboarding division launched the pair in 2002, with the OG Dunk silhouette reworked to suit the high-impact sport of skateboarding. The good news is that the SB Dunk is also a sneaker that fits true to size, meaning you can cop your regular size without needing to worry!

How Does the Nike Dunk Fit Compared to Other Nikes?

If you already own other Nikes and are looking to compare the Dunk to those then you’ll be pleased to hear that they should fit similarly. The Air Jordan 1 is a great example, as this sneaker was also designed by Peter Moore and shares many of the same characteristics as the Dunk. Compared to the AJ1, the Dunk fits almost identical. We’ve also compared the Dunk to the Air Jordan 4 and can confirm there’s very little difference in terms of sizing. The only pair to look out for here will be the Air Force 1, as this silhouette fits bigger than most Nikes, so you’ll have to factor that into the equation when buying Dunks. We’d recommend taking a half size up from your AF1 size if that’s the case.

Nike Dunk Low Court PurpleHow to Style the Nike Dunk?

With the Dunk being a basketball sneaker back in the day, it didn’t take long for the model to transcend into the lifestyle sector, like plenty of Nike shoes that were originally intended for the courts. When it comes to styling Dunks, you’ll be pleased to hear that they’re one of the most versatile kicks out there. No matter what the season, Dunks just seem to work – perhaps it’s the simplistic nature of the design? Here at Crepslocker we love pairing our Dunks with loose-fitting jeans for a laid-back streetwear look. Simply finish off the look with a T-shirt and hoodie combination then accessorise at will.

What Are the Best Nike Dunks Ever?

There’s been a whole heap of great Dunks over the years, making it incredibly difficult to pinpoint just a few favourites. First things first, it’s hard not to mention just how popular the Nike Dunk Low “Panda” has been over the past few years. The pared-back black and white sneakers have become a rotation staple for sneakerheads old and new alike! Other honourable mentions include multiple Off-White efforts, the Ben & Jerry’s x Nike SB Dunk Low from 2020 and of course the incredible first-ever Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Low from 2002.
