According to recently-circulated rumours, VF Corporation could potentially be selling the Supreme brand. Also responsible for globally-recognised labels such as Vans, The North Face and Timberland, VF Corporation acquired Supreme back in 2020 for $1.2 Billion USD. It was reported by WWD that VF has been offering Supreme to potential buyers. It’s currently unclear what the motive behind this move is, or even if there’s any definitive substance behind these rumours, however many are speculating that it could be due to Supreme’s declining popularity as of late. While the brand has long since been streetwear’s original and most iconic label, in recent years it’s hard to deny that the label has continued to grow as it has in previous years.
The streetwear space has become incredibly competitive, with the rise of similar brands such as the Palace Skateboards and Corteiz proving that the industry is for the taking. Perhaps Supreme hasn’t proved quite as profitable as VF Corporation first imagined. However, this could all just be speculation, as a spokesperson for VF confirmed that “As a matter of policy, we don’t comment on market rumours or speculation”.
